TRAVELLS
During a month of research in Lisbon preparatory to a European project, we discovered on the other side of the Tagus, a place with a lot of what IMAGINAIR loves. An industrial park, partly abandoned, Brutalist structures, archaeological treasures of waste and post-industrial patinas. . . Our excitement was boosted further as we discovered through our partner PADA that quite a few creatives were setting up projects in and around the park. Like-mindedness one might say….
Six months later, we participated with IMAGINAIR in TERRITORY, an international expo of artist and curator-led projects exploring the impact of the ecological, environmental and political consequences contained within territorial systems.
Today, we are expanding IMAGINAIR with a location in Portugal, Setùbal near Lisbon. It will become a space destined for creative research, development, creation and international exchange.
Territory festival was jointly developed and delivered by Barreiro based PADA and London based SLUICE in collaboration with LISBON ART WEEKEND.
IMAGINAIR presented its own work and that of several artists it previously curated at its Artspace in the former furniture factory.
KATRIEN VANDERBIEST
In a theatrical installation, Katrien captures the haughtiness and awkwardness of the man in the street, the empire of five square kilometers around and under the church tower.
GEOFFREY LAMBERT
Geoffrey questions the relationship between man and his environment. By highlighting the finiteness of reserves, his objects and installations honour the beauty of nature.
KOENRAAD TINEL
Fleeing, being on the move.
Tinel – as a child of WW2 – sees history repeating.
RUBEN BOEREN
In abstract sweeps that also include figurative elements, Boeren seems to be engaged in a peaceful battle with his own work. The artist in search of his own plot of land, his personal territory.
CURRENCY by IMAGINAIR – Katrien & Geoffrey
In our series CURRENCY, we question the value of things.
We placed the installation within different realities we encountered while crossing areas on our way to the festival. Man and his environment captured in images of a changing landscape.
The installation resulted in a photo series that we showed for the first time in Brussels in April ’24.
