In UMBRA we bring together the work of co-founder and sculptor/designer

Geoffrey Lambert (b. 1985, Brussels, Belgium) with that of renowned artist and graphic

designer LUKASZ – Lukasz Kurzatkowski – (b. 1958, Lublin, Poland), whose estate is

exclusively represented by Maurice Verbaet.

The work of both artists – although from different generations, backgrounds and media –

converges in the layering of black. Furthermore, for both, material, craftsmanship and

process are inseparably linked to the development of their own artistic visual language.

Whilst Geoffrey burns his wooden objects and sculptures to abstract them into layered black,

LUKASZ seeks layers of meaning in the black inks with which he draws his lines. Both artists

create by leaving out: Geoffrey uses the process of burning to seek out the core within the

form; LUKASZ works with linocut – the figure emerges through the act of cutting away.

In a scenography where the space between the objects and the works speaks just as

strongly as the objects themselves, IMAGINAIR invites its audience to reflect on that tipping

point: where design or form becomes art, and how this is encapsulated in the white space

between the lines.
