Franzel Studio – François Desmet

Ghent, Belgium

Franzel Studio is the creative vision of François Desmet (BE, 1996), a young product designer from Ghent, Belgium. With a foundation in industrial engineering, François approaches design with a unique blend of industrial precision and creativity. His work harmonizes modern manufacturing techniques with the artistry of handcrafted materials, resulting in designs that prioritize function and embody a simple, timeless elegance.

At Franzel Studio, the vision is to make sustainable furniture the norm, by crafting pieces that are both enduring in form and function. Each material is carefully chosen for its durability and capacity to develop a beautiful patina over time. By fostering a playful yet lasting emotional connection with every piece, we hope people will not only cherish their furniture but also pass it down proudly to future generations—just like a treasured family heirloom, but with a contemporary twist.

Bram Kerkhofs

Bram Kerkhofs

Holsbeek, Belgium

BRAM KERKHOFS (° 1977) is a Belgian furniture designer balancing between art and design. Through his growing oeuvre he investigates new forms and methods to challenge the functionality and flexibility of a piece of furniture.

Trained as a goldsmith, he is fascinated by connections, hinges, knots and connections and especially by the functional possibilities they provide, from which his fascination for modular systems and details grew. Mathematical principles dominate his work to visualize the often endless formal compositions via algorithms. Bram draws special attention to the relationship between construction and material and brings simplicity to complexity with a permanent alertness to the ultimate function. This time-consuming design and development process results in innovative construction systems that automatically express its signature. Many of his designs have to be seen in a larger view, as parts of a whole, in which he explores the endless possibilities for connections, combinations and variations.`

Miel Cardinael

Miel Cardinael

Gentbrugge, Belgium

Miel Cardinael (BE), designer of things and spaces.

Clamping tools, glue, coffee and scale models: things which are always hanging around. At home parts lie about without any clear purpose until, over time, ten different versions exist. Prototypes come and go. Sketches on the back of a child’s drawing.

A special and enduring bond between the object and its user is the starting point. Miel goes for an experimental approach to material, construction and user experience. Test, examine, set aside and start again. Plane and sand. Seeing solutions to problems you don’t yet have.
